Things you have to do before you go to the states!!!

1. Internship organisation
There are a lot, it depends on what you wanna do and how much you wanna spend. I have chosen praktika.de. They are not that expensive, just about 950,00€ ($ 1200) for an unpaid and 1150 € ($1350) for a paid internship.

2. Visa
If you found a company who wants you you have to order the visa. The chamber of commerce can help you with that. First you need the DS 2019 Document. It allows you to work in the states. After you get this you have to call the Department of State in Berlin and get a date for an Interview to get the J-1 Visa. This allows you to go to the states. Costs: organisation 790€ ( about $ 900), Sevis Fee $180 (140€), Interview in Berlin 108€ ($120).

3. Insurance
If you wanna go to America you need some Insurances like the normal insurance, the accident-insurance, baggage-insurance and health insurance. Most insurance-company sell these for vacations from about 6 Weeks. So if you wanna stay longer you have to ask if they offer something like that. I ordered my insurances at praktika.de and paid about 224 € ( $ 260) for 154 days. You can ask AXA, Allianz and other insurance-companies too. I paid 1.45 € ($1,60) a day.

4. Bank
You have to think about that how you wanna get some money in the states. I choosed the "Deutsche Bank" because you'll get an account for free. They are in the Cash Group, so it's possible to get Money at a cashpoint for free. Important: It's just possible when you're going to the "Bank of America" cause they're in the Cash Group too.


5. Car
Do you wanna hold your car or not? I choosed that I'll sell my car. You need a car in America. So mine's really old and I think I could get a car in the States with the money I'll get for my car.

6. Mobile
If you have a mobile phone in Germany and you've got a contract with a mobile company it's possible to have a break from 6 months. You're contract will have a break but you'll be in the contract 6 months longer because of this break. But you've got the opportunity to save this money and spend it in the country you are.

A mobile in America costs about $20. It depends on what you want.
